David Maggard

David Monroe "Dave" Maggard, " Popo" to his grandchildren & great grandchildren, age 80 of Estill Co., KY. formerly of Leslie Co. passed away Monday, June 18, 2018 at the University of Louisville Medical Center, Louisville, KY. Dave was born Feb. 7, 1938 in Hyden, KY., the son of the late, John Maggard & Orlena Bowling Maggard. He had been a resident of Estill Co. since 1989.  Dave had been a vocational education teacher for 28 years employed by the Leslie Co. & Estill Co. school systems. Dave was united in marriage to his loving & devoted wife , Helen Skeens Maggard on November 15, 1958. He enjoyed mechanics, woodworking (making instruments), eating, avid coffee drinker, fishing & going to the beaches of North Carolina.  Dave was a distinguished songwriter & musician. He had won song of the year "SPYGMA". He was a ASE Master Technician & had been commissioned as a KY. Colonel.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Boone, Ben, Paul & Ed Maggard, sister, Hazel Lovett, brother-in-laws, Edgar Lovett, Brutus Begley & Chuck Collins & sister-in-law, Melva Maggard. He leaves the following relatives surviving, loving & devoted wife of 59 years, Helen Skeens Maggard of Ravenna, KY., beloved daughters, Teresa Maggard of Ravenna, Ky., Melissa McIntosh & Chris of Richmond, KY. & Audrey Clowers & Tim of Irvine, KY., beloved son, David Maggard, Jr. & Vickie of Richmond, KY., sisters, Mary Ethel Collins of Birmingham, AL., Leona Begley of Zebulon, NC. & Patricia McKinney & Richard of Richmond, KY., sister-in-law; Audrey Maggard of Hyden, Ky., 6 treasured grandchildren, Amy Brangers, Paul Maggard, Travis Maggard, Cody Lewis, Molly King & Mason Clowers & 7 treasured great grandchildren, Katie Maggard, Brad Maggard, Kendall Maggard,  Emi Maggard, Matthew Brangers, Olivia Brangers, Sophia Brangers & a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives & friends survive.
