John Sebert Pertee, 75, of Roderfield, WV, passed away at his residence, surrounded by his family and friends, Sunday, April 8, 2018. Sebert was born March 2, 1943 in Welch, WV, a son of the late Sherman Culley and Gladys Steele Pertee. He was a beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Sebert was a veteran of the United States Navy; a coal miner for 16 1/2 years and a UMWA representative for 16 years. He was also, the current president of the UMWA Local #5997. Sebert had a love of nature and was an avid hunter and fisherman; he also enjoyed ginsaning. In addition to his parents Sebert was preceded in death by his wife, Eveline Pertee; one daughter, Mary Elizabeth Pertee Elliott; two brothers, Kelly Pertee, and Donald Pertee; and three sisters, Mavis Martin, Nadine Sorah, and Wanda Sadler. Survivors include his children, Charles Lee Pertee (Melanie) of Virginia Beach, VA, John Richard Pertee (Mary Ann) of Oakvale, WV, Sheri Pertee Fraser (John) of Dinwiddle, VA, Joshua Ray Pertee (Amber) of Courtland, VA; one sister, Ruth Jane Lowe of Titusville FL; grandchildren, Stacie Tate, Jessica Garlic, Kayla Elliott, John Robert Pertee and Culley Dewayne Pertee, Amanda Gilliam, Cody Norman, Jody Norman, Ashley Shifflett, Audrey and Jacob Pertee ;15 great grandchildren; a very special friend, David and Rita Blankenship and his favorite turkey hunting buddy, Christopher Walls. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday evening, April 11, 2018, at 7 o’clock with Reverend Bernard (BJ) Evans officiating at the Chapel of Fanning Funeral Home in Iaeger, WV. Family and friends will gather at Fanning Funeral Home in Iaeger, WV, Thursday morning, April 12, 2018 to travel to Kentucky for burial; funeral procession will leave Fanning Funeral Home at 9 a.m. Serving as pallbearers will be David Pertee, Terry Pertee, Clete Pertee, Brian Pertee, Donald (Cotton) Pertee, Eddie Sorah, Joshua Pertee and Chris Walls. Friends may visit with the family Wednesday evening, April 11, 2018 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Chapel of Fanning Funeral Home in Iaeger, WV. Fanning Funeral Home in Iaeger, WV, is assisting the Family. The funeral will be Thursday @ 1pm @ The Church of The Lord Jesus Christ with Rev. Don Kilburn Rev. B.J. Evans officiating. Visitation will begin at 12:00 Noon until time of funeral service at the church. Burial will take place at the Coots Cemetery. Dwayne Walker Funeral Home will be in charge of local arrangements.
