Melda Faye (Stacy) Sizemore departed this world peacefully, surrounded by family and entered the gates of Heaven on, January 4, 2018. Melda had been cared for by the doctors and staff of Appalachian Regional Hospital of Hazard and the Hospice of the Bluegrass. Melda was born on December 8, 1928, in Blackey, Virginia, to the late George K. and Pearlie Adams Stacy. Melda was a loving and devoted wife to the late Marcus Sizemore for 55 years. She was a resident of both Leslie and Clay counties. Melda was a devoted member of Muncy Creek Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and just enjoyed being at church with her family. Melda worked as Deputy Clerk at the Leslie County Courthouse in the County Clerk’s office for 26 years. Melda was honored as a Kentucky Colonel. Melda’s likes and hobbies included cooking, gardening, canning food, music, shopping for clothes and shoes, talking on the phone to friends and family, and spending quality time with her family, especially her six Great Grandchildren whom she loved dearly and each brought a smile to her face with just the sound of their voice.
Melda was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers: Harold and L.B. Stacy; sisters: Mary Lillian Hurt and Naomi Ruth Watson. Melda is survived by two precious sisters: Betty Ann Ponder and Foster of Melbourne, Florida; Margaret Sue Hightower of Wooton; three dedicated and caring children: daughters Virginia (Jenny) Lee Barger and husband Samuel (Butch) of Hyden, and Brenda Gail Spurlock and husband Edward (Eddie) of Bear Branch; son: Marcus (Markie) Ray Sizemore Jr and wife Diane of Stinnett; four treasured grandchildren: Crystal Lee Fields and Brandon of Hyden; Samuel Lee Barger II and Megan of Wooton; Marcus Ray Sizemore III and April of Hazard, and Tanner Seth Spurlock of Bear Branch; and six most prized and dear to her heart, great grandchildren: Kayleigh, Alli, Preston, Addi, Reed, and Luke. Melda is survived by a special sister-in-law, Alene Baker and special brother-in-law, LeRoy and Beverly Sizemore both of Ohio. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, host of loved ones and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home, Hyden, Kentucky, on Monday, January 8th, at 1:00pm with Pastors Ronnie Melton and Kelly Fields officiating. Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. - Sunday-January 7, 2018 at the funeral home chapel.
Melda will be laid to rest next to her husband at the Steele Cemetery at Hyden, Kentucky. Following the conclusion of the gravesite service, there will be a fellowship for all friends and family of Melda at Muncy Creek Baptist Church.
The following persons will serve as pallbearers: Samuel Lee Barger II, Marcus Ray Sizemore III, Brandon Fields, Tanner Spurlock, Scott Melton, Brent Farmer, Julian Hightower.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, the family would appreciate donations made to the Greg and Noreen Wells Hospice Care Center, 101 Dennis Sandlin M.D. Cove, Hazard, Ky. 41701in the Memory of Melda Sizemore.
