Geraldine “Gerry” Johnson passed away on December 7, 2016 at the Bloomington Hospice House. Gerry was born in Hyden, Kentucky on May 21, 1953 to Arzie Jones and Rodella (Kilbourne) Jones. Gerry graduated from Leslie County High School in 1972 and attended cosmetology school at Hazard Vocational where she received her beautician’s certification. Gerry moved to Bloomington and married Raymond Johnson on August 27, 2003.
Gerry and Raymond were introduced by family in 2001. Raymond drove to Hyden to spend every weekend with Gerry until she made the journey to live with him in Bloomington. Gerry played the banjo, and Raymond loved to hear her make beautiful music. They shared many hobbies including a love of bluegrass music and attended many festivals in Kentucky during their marriage. Raymond would accompany Gerry at flea markets while she looked for unique antique items for hours. Gerry was also a member of Southern Hill Church of Christ in Bloomington, where she praised her love of Jesus with her friends and family.
Gerry was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Evelyn Pennington, Alta Feltner, ad Emma Jean Jones; five brothers, Eugene Jones, Carlos Jones, Clarence Jones, Lonnie Jones, and Jimmie Jones; her step-daughter, Melissa Johnson.
She is survived by her husband, Raymond Johnson; her daughter, Rebecca Turner of Bloomington; her brother, Burgoyne (Joyce) Jones of Corbin, Kentucky; her sisters, Betty Wooton and Kathy Pennington, both of Wooton, Kentucky; her brother-in-law, Jeff Pennington of Wooton, Kentucky; her special niece, Rebecca Lewis of Stinnett, Kentucky; her step-daughter, Sharon (Jeff) Anderson of Indianapolis; three step-granddaughters, Jessica Anderson, Hannah Anderson, and Shelbi Cauble; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 12, 2016 at Allen Funeral Home and Crematory, 4155 S. Old State Road 37, Bloomington. Burial will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens. Family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
