Herbert Woods

Mr. Herbert Woods of Thousandsticks, Ky., born February 18, 1925 departed this life on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at the Pikeville Medical Center, Pikeville, Ky.  He was 91 years old.  Herbert was born at Thousandsticks, Ky., the son of the late Abner Woods & Bertie Young Woods.  Herbert was a retired coal miner having been an employee of the Blue Diamond Coal Co., Leatherwood, Kentucky mine site. Herbert was a life-long resident of Hyden, Ky., and devoted member of the Hyden Church of God.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and most importantly spending time with his family.  Herbert was preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 61 years to whom he was united in marriage to on October 10, 1948 Ophia Osborne Woods. Ophia passed away on August 8, 2009. He was also preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, two sisters; Cora Wooton, Beulah Woods, three brothers; Jr. Woods, Hiram Woods & Wallace Woods.  Mr. Herbert Woods leaves the following relatives surviving; one beloved son; Buster Woods & wife, Deborah of Thousandsticks, Ky., two beloved daughters; Irene Sizemore of Thousandsticks, Ky., Rowena Sizemore of Jacksonville, Texas, two step-daughters; Sarah Roberts of Eubank, Ky., Oultia Woods and husband, Kermit of London, Ky.,  three brothers; Edd Woods and wife, Sadie,  of Thousandsticks, Ky., Kenneth Young of Dayton, Ohio, Kermit Woods and wife, Oultia of London, Ky.,  three sisters; Jennie Gil and husband, Robert, of London, Ky., Magdaline Osborne of London, Ky., Elizabeth Keen of Middletown, Ohio, 12 treasured grandchildren, 20 treasured great, grandchildren, 9 treasured great, great, grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives  and friends.

 1:00 p.m. - Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home, Hyden, Ky.
