Burley Wells

Mr. Burley Wells of Wooton, KY., passed away on Sunday, June 12, 2016 at the Eastern Kentucky Veterans Center, Hazard, KY. at the age of 94. He was born on July 23, 1921 at Daley, KY the son of the late Floyd Wells and the late Betty Shepherd Wells. Mr Burley Wells served honorably in the U.S. Army and was a WWII Veteran.  In his early years, Burley worked in the logging industry. Later, he was engaged in several businesses that included operating a service station, a trucking company, and helped his wife run the family owned business, Wells General Store.  Mr. Wells retired several years ago and devoted his time to family, gardening and beekeeping. He was preceded in death by his father & step-mother: Floyd and Alpha Browning Wells, mother and step-father: Betty Shepherd Wells and Matt Wells, his loving & devoted wife, Freda Nance Wells, brothers: Clinton, Denver, George and Elmer Wells & wife: Ruby, maternal brothers: Bethel, Lillie, and Marion Wells, sisters: Lena Morgan and Polly Maggard, maternal sisters: Mavie Kilburn and Susie Johnson. He leaves the following relatives surviving, 1 son, Larry K. Wells & Betty, Wooton, KY. 2 daughters, Patricia Wells Clark & Michael, Moscow, Ohio & Karen Sue Wells, Wooton, KY., five brothers: Richard Wells & wife Gail of Wooton, Ky.,  Otis Wells & wife Lois of London, Ky., maternal brothers: Elvin Wells & wife Anna Marie of Texas;  Elzie Wells & wife Virginia of Stinnett, Ky.,  Harold Wells & wife Wilma of London, Ky.,  five sisters: Viola Pollard of Wooton, Ky., Lorraine France of Wooton, Ky Irene Engle & husband Felix of Ohio; Doris Williams & husband Otis of Keavy, Ky.,  maternal sister: Martha Amburgey of Norfolk, VA.,  8 grandchildren, Anthony Wells, William Kent Wells & wife Valerie, Jessica Caldwell & husband Kent, Byron Clark, Joshua Clark & wife Tamara, Wesley Clark & wife Holly, Stevie McDaniel & Shaun McDaniel & 19 great-grandchildren, paternal sister-in-law; Jan Wells of Smilax, Ky., paternal brother-in-law; Chris Maggard of Smilax, Ky.



FUNERAL SERVICES: 1:00 p.m., Thursday- June 16, 2016 at the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home in Hyden, KY.

VISITATION: 12:00 noon, Thursday-June 16, 2016 at the funeral home chapel.

OFFICIATING MINISTER: Pastor Tim Reynolds

PLACE OF INTERMENT: Wells Family Cemetery at Polls Creek, Smilax, KY.
