John Baker

December 1, 1928 — May 24, 2016

Mr. John Baker, age 87 of Jabez, Ky, being at peace with God and his fellow man, departed this life at his home on May 24th surrounded by his loving wife, Martha, and family.

Residing in Stinnett, John accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior while inside a large tent that had been erected by Rev. Rufus Slusher for revival. He was baptized in Lake Cumberland by Pastor Mark Brumfield of the Jabez Missionary Church of God in Jabez.

John and Martha were blessed with 66 years of marriage and have shared a truly amazing friendship as well. Together with family and friends, they enjoyed many years of fishing, camping, gardening, and delightful "get-togethers". John lived life to the fullest and always shared his enthusiasm for God's gifts of nature, humor and love.

John was born on December 1, 1928, to the union of the late, Walter and Chaney Smith Baker of Stinnett. A veteran of the United States Air Force, he served several years in Japan in WWII. After being discharged, he was employed as a coal miner, school teacher and later worked as a heavy equipment operator for the Kentucky State Highway Department.

Embraced by a large, loving family and more friends than can be mentioned, John always enjoyed their visits as well as reading his Bible, and worshipping God with the WLJC Ministries.
