Janet Ethel Asher

March 5, 1966 — February 22, 2016

Mrs. Janet Ethel "Jan" Morgan Asher born March 5, 1966 departed this life on Monday, February 22, 2016 at the Hazard Appalachian Regional Medical Center, Hazard, Ky.  She was 49 years old.  Jan was born at Hyden, Kentucky, the daughter of Eva Ruth Wooton Morgan & the late Danny Morgan.  Jan spent her formative years in Hyden & attended Hyden Elementary & was a graduate of Leslie Co. High School.  Jan was very active in athletics, having played basketball in grades 5-11 & was a cheerleader her senior year. She received many awards in her elementary & high school career. Jan won the Leslie Co. Soil Conservation District Poster Contest, was a past winner of the Tri-Star Olympics free throw shooting contest.  Jan was very active and excelled in numerous 4-H activities & received a number of awards, especially in public speaking.  Jan was also awarded a 4-H jacket. Jan was a recent inductee into the Leslie Co. Sports Hall of Fame.  Jan was a devoted member of the Hyden Baptist Church where she was the church pianist for 15 years, following the footsteps of her grandmother, Ethel Morgan.  Jan coached the girls church basketball team.  Jan was currently attending the Anna C. Brush Memorial Presbyterian Church, Dryhill Road, Hyden, Ky & served as the pianist.   Jan received her BS from the University of Ky, where she was on the dean's list 5 semesters out of 7 & her Masters Degree from Union College & her Rank 1 certification in vision impairment from the University of Louisville. She was currently employed by the Leslie Co. Board of Education as director of the pre-school screening program for all the elementary schools.  Jan served as the first girl's basketball coach at the Leslie Co. Middle School and also coached the girls basketball teams at Hyden Elementary.  She was very well respected by her colleagues, peers & parents  for her educational leadership & by her former students for her genuine concern & the  positive influence on all she came in contact with.  Mrs. Janet Ethel Morgan Asher was preceded in her death by her father; Danny Morgan, her favorite aunt; Mildred Joyce Wooton & her father-in-law, Hershel Asher.  Mrs. Janet Ethel Morgan Asher leaves the following relatives surviving: her loving and devoted husband; Hershel Dean Asher of Hyden, Ky., her beloved mother; Eva Ruth  Wooton Morgan & J.B. Sizemore of Hyden, Ky., step-daughter; Ashley Nicole Asher of Hyden, Ky., her twin brothers; Kyle Ryan Morgan of Hyden, Ky., Stephen Daniel Morgan and wife, Liz, of Louisville, Ky., her mother-in-law: Fannie Mae Sizemore Asher of Hyden, Ky., a host of nieces & nephews, best friend; Rhonda Whitaker Sizemore and God Children; Lindsey, Megan, Dalton & Camron Sizemore, & a host of treasured cousins, aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.

 2:00 p.m. - Saturday- February 27, 2016 at the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home Chapel, Hyden, Ky

 12 Noon - until the funeral hour at 2:00 P.M. - Saturday - February 27, 2016

PLACE OF INTERMENT:  Hershel Asher Memorial Cemetery, Hyden, Ky.
