Later she walked to the Leslie County High School which was about 4 miles away. She and Woodrow married in 1937. They continued to live in Kentucky until 1942 when they moved to Hamilton, Ohio where work was more plentiful. They lived there until 1953 when they moved back to Hyden to be near their families and friends. Always a homemaker and mother, her children always knew she would be waiting for them when they got home from school. She loved quilting, gardening, being with family and friends, and teaching Sunday school at the Dry Hill Presbyterian Church. Nothing pleased Sophia more than being spending time with her children, grand-children and great-grandchildren. It brought her great joy and satisfaction to provide meals and watch everyone, especially the little children, enjoy themselves at the family gatherings. She devoted her life to her family and her love was boundless. Sophia and Woodrow moved to St Cloud upon retirement. They became faithful and active members of the St Cloud Presbyterian Church, and seldom missed a church service. She enjoyed volunteering in the Church Thrift Store with her daughter, Hallie, and other friends. A celebration memorial service, officiated by the Reverend Paige McRight, will be held Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at 1:00 PM at the St Cloud Presbyterian Church, 909 10th Street, St Cloud, Florida 34769.
