Mrs. Verna Shepherd was born on January 1, 1925, departed this lfie on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at the Hyden Health & Rehabilitation Center. She was 89 years, 3 months & 23 days old. Verna was born at Bowens Creek, Ky., the daughter of the late Woodard Collett & Blanche Barrett Collett. Verna was a homemaker and a devoted member of the Middlefork Community Church. She enjoyed seamstress work, quilting, flower gardening & being involved in the lives of her family. Verna was preceded in death by her parents, her loving and devoted husband, Sheldon Shepherd,two sons: Tom & Dale Shepherd, two grandsons: Thomas Allen Shepherd & Sean Hobbs, one granddaughter: Kimberly Marcum, one great granddaughter: Audrey Renee Jackson, two daughter-in-laws: Cinda Shepherd & Joy Jane Shepherd, brothers: A.C. Collett, Bernard Collett, Burgie Collett, Oscar Collett, & one sister: Thelma Fee. Mrs. Verna Shepherd leaves the following relatives surviving: Sons: Woodard Shepherd of Warbranch, Ky., Asher Shepherd & Linda of Chicago, Illinois, Sheldon Shepherd, Jr. & Helen of Essie, Ky., Curtis Shepherd of Bledsoe, Ky., Ernest Shepherd & Evonne of Manchester, Ky.,Raymond Shepherd & Becky of Murphy, North Carolina, Lonnie Shepherd and Nancy of Cumberland, Ky., Alan Shepherd & Connie of London, Ky., one brother: Tinsley Collett and Darlene of Essie, Ky., two sisters: Vadie Collett & Mary Coomer & Alvin, all of Jeffersonville, Indiana, 30 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, 4 great, great, grandchildren & a host of other treasured relatives and friends.
