Therese Rose Smith November 28, 1955 - February 4, 2014 Therese Rose Smith, age 58 of Nancy, KY passed away on Tuesday February 4, 2014 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. She was born on November 28, 1955 in Kettering, OH to the late Peter and Bonita Steinmetz VanSchaik. Therese was a member of Beacon Hill Baptist Church where she was currently a third grade Sunday School Teacher. Therese was a devoted Christian who loved the Lord and spent her days spreading His light. She was also a Registered Nurse for Lake Cumberland Surgical Associates. She worked with and was an organizer for the Relay for Life and American Cancer Society and enjoyed spending time with her grandson. She is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Wayne Smith, whom she married on July 24, 1976 in Huber Heights, OH. Two sons, Jeremy (Jenny) Smith of Cave City, KY and Brandon Smith of Nancy, KY. One step-daughter, Brandy (Shane) Creech of Alexandria, KY. Two brothers, Peter (Cheryl) VanSchaik of Deltona, Fla. and Bro. Vic (Angela) VanSchaik of St. Louis, MO. One sister, Valerie VanSchaik of Huber Heights, OH. Two step-brothers, Mark Shackford of Huber Heights, OH and Michael (Julie) of Alpharetta, GA. One step-sister, Chris (Leslie) Davidson of Huber Heights, OH. One grandson, Jonah Smith and four step-grandchildren, Justin, Kayla, Gracie and James. Step-mother, Faith VanSchaik of Huber Heights, OH. Also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Friday February 7, 2014 after 4pm in the Memory Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday February 8, 2014 at 11am in the Memory Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home with Rev. Donavon Burton officiating. Burial will follow in the Southern Oaks Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
