James Lawton Asher

The Obituary for Mr. James Lawton Asher Officiating Minister: Rev. Merle Caudill Mr. James L. Asher was born on June 20, 1926 and departed this life on August 4, 2010 at the age of 84 years, 1 month and 15 days old. He was born at Wooton, Ky., the son of the late Bertie Bowling Asher and George Asher and a life long resident of Wooton, Ky. with the exception of the last three years he spent at the Veterans Center in Hazard, Ky. By occupation he was a former Leslie County Jailer, Miner and Trucker. Some of James'Hobbies included building Grandfather Clocks, Hunting and Gardening. He served in World War II and was wounded in action in 1945 in the German Campaign. He was awarded a Purple Heart. He was a Member of the Leslie Co. DAV, Chapter 133, and a Charter Member of the Wooton Lions Club. He was preceded in death by his Parents, Wife, Marie Melton Asher,One Son, Larry Kent Asher, One Sister, Shirley Rose Slone, Two Brothers, Edmund Asher and Emmons Asher and two Great-Grandsons, Corey Grant Asher and Ethan Grant Asher. He leaves surviving Two Sons, Roy Gordon Asher and James Asher, Jr. and Wife Pat, all of Wooton, Kentucky. One Brother, John Kent Asher and wife, Helen of Covington,Ohio. One Special Brother-In-Law, Raleigh Melton of Camden, Ohio. Five Grandchildren: Dr. Andrea L. Little and Husband, Anthony of Wooton, KY., Roy Gordon Asher, Jr. of Wooton, KY., Amy Jo Simpson and Husband Bobby of Hyden, Ky., Mitchell Kent Asher of Wooton, Ky. and Kelli Asher Adams and Husband Roy Paul of Hyden, KY. Ten Great-Grandchildren, Lauren Taylor Little, James Carlton Alexander Little, Madison Anne Little, Adam Tate Asher, Jenna Ellen Asher, Ryan Andrew Mitchell Simpson, Haley Michelle Simpson, Kenna Alexis Asher, Shaun Trenton Baker and Olivia Shalyn Marie Roark. Also a host of other relatives & friends survive. Funeral Service will be conducted by the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home on Saturday, August 7, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home with Rev. Merle Caudill officiating. Military rites will be observed by the Leslie Co. DAV Chapter 133 . The interment will follow in the Hurricane Cemetery at Hyden, KY. The following will serve as Pallbearers: Anthony Little, Bobby Simpson, Roy Paul Adams, Mitchell Kent Asher, Roy Gordon Asher, Jr., John Montgomery, Richard Slone & Kevin Gay.
