Dr. Steven M. Meader

The Obituary of Dr. Steven M. Meader Officiating Ministers: Dr. Andrew Farmer and Larry Blankenship Dr. Steven M. Meader was born in Weirton, West Virginia on December 21, 1926. He was the Son of the late Stephen & Anna Copelean Meader. He departed this life on Saturday, December 15, 2012 in London, Ky. He was 85 years of age. Dr. Meader was a World War II Veteran, having served honorably in the United States Navy. He entered the Navy at the age of 17 in 1943. He served as a sonar operator on a submarine and represented his sub and ship as a boxer against other armed forces. Dr. Meader attended college on the G.I. bill and was graduated as a member of the first class of the College of Stubenville, West Virginia in 1949. He worked his way through dental school at the University of Pittsburgh by working with his father on the weekends at the Weirton Steel Mill in the Bessemer furnace room and by playing alto sax (not very well) at weddings. Dr. Meader was graduated from dental school in 1953 and served in The Public Health Service in both Virginia and Kentucky, as a Public Health officer until he moved to Hyden in 1954. Dr. Meader practiced dentistry in Hyden for 56 years until he retired in 2010. He was a long standing member of the Kentucky Dental Association where he served as an executive board member. He was also a member of the American Dental Association. He served as a scout master and was a long standing member of the Lion's Club. He enjoyed bowling and playing golf. His real passion, however, was a private Pilot. Dr. Steven M. Meader was preceded in death by his Parents Stephen & Anna Copelean Meader & his loving and devoted Wife Mona Meader. Dr. Steven M. Meader leaves the following relatives surviving: Daughters: Stephanie Kondoff and her Daughter Allison, Jennifer Meader & Husband Paul Yetter and their Children Olivia & Phillip; Sons: Steven Meader & Wife Vicky and their Daughters Sheena & Kara, Bill Meader & Wife Kristi and their Sons Drew & Seth, Daniel Meader & Wife Renee and their Son Jordan & Daughter Natalie and Lon Meader & Wife Lucy and their Sons Bryan, Morgan and Skyler; Great Granddaughter Lily; He is also survived by his Brother-In-Law: Larry Blankenship & wife Peggy and Children Larry Lee & Suzette. Funeral services for Dr. Steven M. Meader will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. " Sunday " December 23, 2012 at the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home ~ Hyden, KY with Dr. Andrew Farmer and Larry Blankenship officiating. The interment will follow in the Hurricane Cemetery, Hyden, Ky. Friends may call for visitation Saturday ~ December 22, 2012 from 5:00 - 9:00 P.M. at the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home.
