The Obituary of Mrs. Martha Begley Lovett Officiating Ministers: Rev. Billy Joe Lewis, Rev. Merle Caudill & Rev. Greg Whitaker Mrs. Martha Begley Lovett, of Dayton, Ohio, formerly of Hyden, KY., departed this life on Saturday, December 15, 2012 in Centerville, Ohio. She was born at Thousandsticks, KY. and was the Daughter of the late Ira Begley and the late Mary Jane Sizemore. Martha received her Undergraduate Degree from Cumberland College, Williamsburg, KY., her Master's Degree and Rank I at Eastern Kentucky University, Richmond, Ky. & received credit toward her Doctorate Degree at the University of Kentucky. She had a very distinguished career as an Educator. Martha started her teaching career in 1954. She taught the Second grade at the Wayne Township School System in Dayton, Ohio until 1972. She returned to Leslie Co. in 1972 to serve as the Superintendent of the Leslie Co. School System. Martha held the position of Superintendent until 1978. She returned to the classroom & taught the First grade at Hyden Elementary until her retirement in 1992. Martha was very civic minded & active in her local community. She was a member of the Hyden Lions Club, Kentucky Retired Teacher's Association, Homemaker's Club and was commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel. Martha was very interested in allowing children to continue their college education. Martha established the Begley Family Scholarship Fund in 1995 --this has enabled 17 deserving high school seniors to attend college. She served on the Board of Cumberland College and was a devoted member of the Central Presbyterian Church, Hyden, Ky. Mrs. Martha Begley Lovett was Preceded in Death by: Her Loving and Devoted Husband: Larry Lovett; Parents: Ira Begley and Mary Jane Sizemore Begley; Sister: Maggie Napier; Brothers: Elmer Begley (former Kentucky Secretary of State) & Marcus Begley. Mrs. Martha Begley Lovett leaves the following relatives surviving: Sons: Timothy Wayne Lovett and wife, Debra, of Bellbrook, Ohio and Thomas Wendel Lovett of Oakwood, Ohio; Sister: Lillie Osborne of Lexington, KY.; Treasured Grandchildren: Caitlin Lovett, Natalie Lovett, Isabel Lovett, Cristahl Lovett, Timmy Lovett and a host of other relatives and friends. The funeral service for Mrs. Martha Begley Lovett will be conducted at 10:30 A.M. - Saturday - December 22, 2012 at the Central Presbyterian Church with Rev. Billy Joe Lewis, Rev. Merle Caudill & Rev. Greg Whitaker officiating. The interment will follow in the Hurricane Cemetery - Hyden, KY.
