David Gross Mrs. Dorothy Barrett was born on December 12, 1919 in Roark, KY. and passed away on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at the Mary Breckinridge-ARH Hospital in Hyden, KY. at the age of 92 years. Dorothy was the Daughter of the late John Shepherd and the late Elizabeth Caldwell Shepherd. By occupation Dorothy was a Homemaker and was a lifelong resident of Leslie County with the exception of living in Chicago for 7 years. She was a Member of the Bowen's Creek United Baptist Church in Essie, KY. Dorothy enjoyed sewing, reading and cross word puzzles as hobbies. She was Preceded in Death by: Parents: John & Elizabeth Caldwell Shepherd; Husband: Alex Barrett; Daughter: Elizabeth Mitchell; Sisters: Phronia, Hannah, Oakey, Myrtle and Siller; Brothers: Oscar, Felix, Roy, Joe, Wiley and Paul; Grandsons: Patrick Barrett, Ronald Brock, Audie Collett and Bernard Collett. Dorothy leaves the following relatives surviving: Sons: Ulysses Barrett & Joan of Essie, KY. and Johnny Roark & Molly of Roark, KY.; Daughters: Laura Collett & Willie of Essie, KY. and Blanche Collett & Carl of Roark, KY.; Sisters: Maggie Napier & France of London, KY. and Margie Hale & Eddie of Ohio; 28 Grandchildren, 52 Great Grandchildren and 40 Great-Great Grandchildren also survive. Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy Shepherd Barrett will be conducted on Friday ~ Dec. 7, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at the Lower Jacks Creek United Methodist Church with Rev. Chuck Jack, Rev. James Bowling, Jr., Rev. Taylor Adams and Rev. David Gross officiating. Burial will follow in the Collett Cemetery in Essie, KY. Visitation will begin on Wednesday ~ December 5, 2012 at the Church at 6:00 P.M. and will continue all day Thursday.
