The Obituary of Mr. Hubert L. (Sam) Holbrook Officiating Minister: Rev. Louis Ferarri Mr. Hubert L."Sam" Holbrook, age 78, formerly of Leslie County, Kentucky was born May 15, 1934 and departed this life on Sunday-November 11, 2012 at the St. Joseph East Hospital in Lexington, KY. He was born at Vicco, Kentucky the son of the late Howard Holbrook and the late Clara Vitatoe Holbrook. Sam was a 1952 graduate of Wheelwright High School. He served honorably in the U.S. Air Force from 1952-1956. He received his Masters' Degree & Rank I from Eastern Ky. University. Sam then began what was a very distinguished career as an educator. He taught business education at Breathitt Co. High School & then moved to Hyden where he taught at Hyden Elementary in the early 1960's. Sam was the director of the federal Work Experience Training Program " Happy Pappy"in Leslie Co. in 1965. He served as director of the Leslie Co. Vocational School from 1970 until in 1987 and then served as Director of the Outreach Program for Vocational Education at the Kentucky Department of Education in Frankfort, Ky., from 1987-1989. Sam was an avid hunter and fisherman & enjoyed attending sporting events, especially those in which Leslie Co. High School teams were involved. Mr. Hubert Lee "Sam" Holbrook was Preceded in Death by his Parents: Howard and Clara Holbrook. He leaves surviving the following relatives: Mother of Children: Barbara Sizemore Roark of Pineville, KY; Son: James Howard Holbrook & Nealyn of Chandler, AZ.; Daughters: Robin Renee Holbrook of Franklin, TN. and Leslie Ann Forsythe & Stanley of Lexington, KY.; Brothers: Stanley Holbrook & Gloria of Lexington, KY. and Timothy Holbrook & Shirley of Versailles, KY.; Sisters: Jackie Amburgey & Bill of Olympia, WA., Gail Childers & Ken of Midlothian, VA., Norma Holbrook of Morehead, KY. and Sharon Hinkle & John of N.C.; Sam is also survived by a grandchild to be born. Funeral services for Mr. Hubert Lee "Sam" Holbrook will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. - Wednesday - November 14, 2012 at the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Louis Ferarri officiating. Burial will take place at 2:30 P.M. - Thursday - November 15, 2012 at the Mill Springs National Cemetery located at Nancy, KY. There will be Military Rites observed by the Leslie County DAV Chapter #133 at the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home. The following will serve as Pallbearers: James Howard Holbrook, Stanley Forsythe, Timothy Holbrook, Jim Sizemore, Steve Sizemore, Darrell Morgan & Benny Morgan.
