The obituary of Mrs. Marie Melton Asher Officiating Ministers: Rev. Merle Caudill, Rev. Greg Whitaker Mrs. Marie Melton Asher born July 14, 1925 departed this life on May 31, 2008 at the age of 82 years, 10 months and 17 days old. She was born at Wooton, Kentucky the daughter of the late Mitchell Melton and the late Nancy Jane Hamilton Melton. Marie was a life long resident of Wooton, Kentucky. She was a member of the Wooton Presbyterian Church, member of the Wooton Lions Club and Eastern Star. Marie attended Leslie County Schools and Warren-Wilson College in Swannanoa, North Carolina. By occupation she was a retired supervisor of the Neiborhood Youth Core and L.K.L.P. Some of Marie's hobbies included quilting, embroidery, hunting and gardening. She was preceded in death by her parents: Mitchell & Nancy Melton; one son: Larry Kent Asher, two sisters: Cora Melton and Delta Melton Roberts; two brothers: Robert Melton and Bill Melton;two great grandsons: Corey Grant Asher and Ethan Grant Asher. Marie leaves surviving the following relatives: Husband of 62 years: James Lawton Asher; two sons: James and wife Pat Asher and Roy Gordon Asher all of Wooton, KY; one brother: Raleigh Melton and wife Mary of Camden, OH; five grandchildren: Dr. Andrea Leigh Little and husband Anthony of Wooton, KY; Roy Gordon Asher, Jr. of Wooton, KY; Amy Jo Louverna Simpson and husband Bobby of Hyden, KY; Mitchell Kent Asher of Wooton, KY; Kelly Michelle Adams and Husband Roy Paul of Thousandsticks, KY; Ten great grandchildren: Lauren Taylor Little, James Carlton Alexander Little, Madison Anne Little, Adam Tate Asher, Jenna Ellen Asher, Ryan Andrew Mitchell Simpson, Haley Michelle Simpson, Kenna Alexis Asher, Shaun Trenton Baker, and Olivia Shalynn Marie Roark. Also survived by a host of other treasured relatives and friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Marie Melton Asher will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday - June 2, 2008 at the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Merle Caudill and Rev. Greg Whitaker officiating. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m Monday - June 2, 2008 at the funeral home. Burial will follow the funeral services at the Hurricane Cemetery located at Hyden, KY. The following will serve as pallbearers: Roy Gordon Asher, Jr., Mitchell Kent Asher, Anthony Little, Bobby Simpson, Roy Paul Adams, Jerry Jones and Richard Slone.
