Lloyd L. Turner of Hyden, KY, passed away June 13, 2010 at the age of 86. Lloyd was born in Harlan, Kentucky to the late John L. and Alice Hall Turner on December 24, 1923. He was predeceased by his sister Cleo Turner Hoskins of Loyall, Kentucky, brother, Alonzo Turner of Bledsoe, Kentucky, grandson Chad Clore of Union, Kentucky & son-in-law, John Henry Combs of Wooton, Ky. He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Margaret Phillips Turner, and their five daughters, Dr. Carolyn Camp & husband, Dr. Robert Camp, of Indiana, Pennsylvania, Judy Clore & husband, Kenneth, of Union, Kentucky, Deborah Combs of Wooton, Kentucky, Toni Barrett & husband, Ronnie, of Florence, Kentucky and Tammie Schneider & husband, Paul, of Cincinnati, Ohio. He was blessed with eight grandchildren, Cabell, Carson, and Carter Camp, Chad and Brad Clore, Christopher and Dustin Combs and Chelsea Barrett, along with two precious great-granddaughters Charlotte Camp and Juliana Combs. Lloyd is also survived by one sister, Christine Turner of Harlan, Kentucky and a host of nieces and nephews. Lloyd Turner was a charter member of the Leslie County Fish & Game Club. He served in all offices of the Club and for several years was the Secretary/Treasurer. He took great pride and worked diligently to make the Annual Wildlife Day a success every July. The Coon On the Log contest was his area of interest. He also enjoyed going to area businesses and getting their participation in the prize drawing at the end of the day's event. Lloyd enjoyed his taking part in the Community Senior Citizens program and attended regularly as long as his health permitted. He also served on the 8 county area aging council as one of Leslie County's representatives. He loved nature and was an early conservationist in the area. An avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, Lloyd was also known to many as Double L, a nickname affectionately given to him by friends who laughingly claimed he embellished the size and number of the fish he caught. He was well known for his humorous tales, jokes and his contagious laughter. Lloyd loved his family, the people of Leslie County and will be greatly missed. Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, June 18th at the Walker Funeral Home in Hyden, Kentucky. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 19th at Muncy Creek Baptist Church where Lloyd and his family attended with his son-in-law, Kenneth Clore officiating. The interment will follow in the Hurricane Cemetery, Hyden, Ky., with full military rites observed by the Leslie Co. D.A.V. Chapter # 133.
