The Obituary of Mr. Doy "Duck" Bowling Officiating Minister: Mr. Doy " Duck" Bowling born January 18, 1927 departed this life on July 25, 2009 at his residence, 197 Bowling Hollow Road, Avawam, Ky. He was 82 years, 6 months, & 7 days old. Doy was born at Harvey, Ky., the son of the late Carl Bowling & Goldie Bailey. Doy "Duck" Bowling spent his formative years in Leslie & Perry Co. He served honorably in the U.S. Army during World War II. Doy " Duck" Bowling was a retired coal miner & also retired from General Motors, where he was a resident of Lansing, Michigan & was a member of the United Auto Workers Union. He had been a resident of McIntosh Creek, Avawam, Ky. for the past 21 years & was a member of the McIntosh Baptist Church. Doy " Duck" Bowling enjoyed being involved with projects with his brothers, going on adventurous vacations such as white water rafting, parasailing, & deep sea fishing. His favorite holiday was Easter so he could hunt eggs with his treasured nieces & nephews. Mr. Doy " Duck" Bowling was preceded in death by his parents: Carl & Goldie Bailey Bowling, two brothers: Billy Joe & Coy Bowling, sister-in-law, Elsie Bowling, brother-in-law, Burl Combs, two nephews, Marcus Bowling & Carl Bowling, & 5 great nieces and nephews.Mr. Doy " Duck" Bowling leaves the following relatives surviving: his loving & devoted wife: Elizabeth Combs Bowling, two step-daughters: Katherine Collett & husband, Darrell of Essie, Ky., Sabrina Holder of Independence, Ky., two brothers: Jay Bowling and wife, Mildred, of Avawam, Ky., Kay Bowling and wife, Irene, Avawam, Ky., one sister: Faye Combs of Lansing Michigan, one sister-in-law: Margaret Bowling of Avawam, Ky., & 13 treasured nieces & nephews along with a host of other treasured relatives & friends to mourn his death. The funeral service for Mr. Doy "Duck" Bowling will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. - Tuesday - July 28, 2009 at the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Amos Hamblin officiating. The interment will follow at the Bowling Family Cemetery, McIntosh Creek, Avawam, Ky., with full military rites observed by the Leslie Co. D.A.V. Chapter # 133 under the direction of the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home Staff. Friends may call for visitation after 6:00 p.m. - Monday - July 27, 2009 at the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home Chapel. The following great - nephews will serve as pallbearers: Casey Bowling, Matt Asher, Shannon Turner, Neil Turner, Paul Ryan Turner, Byron Turner, Brent Bowling, & Brandon Bowling.
