Mrs. Mae Day was born on June 10, 1931 and departed this life on July 17, 2008 at the age of 77 years, 1 month, and 7 days. She was a life-long resident of Leslie County, the daughter of the late John L. Lewis and the late Mary Elizabeth Cornett-Lewis. By occupation, she was a homemaker who enjoyed attending church at the Smilax Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents: John L. Lewis and Mary Elizabeth Cornett-Lewis; husband: Johnnie Day; daughter: Brenda Sue Day; son: Lonnie Edgar Day; brothers: Orie Lewis, Cecil Lewis, Boone Lewis, Lee Lewis, Bige Lewis, and Jimmy Lewis; sisters: Edith Day, Martha Hall, Beatrice Baker, and Mavie Maggard. She leaves surviving the following relatives: one daughter: Glenda Kay Day-Roberts & Ray of Smilax, KY; grandson: John Ray Roberts of Richmond, KY; grand-daughter: Lyvonda Napier & Scott of Essie, KY; one sister: Effie Spurlock of Corbin, KY; and one cousin (who was like a daughter): Ann Kilburn & Clinton of Wooton, KY. Also survived by a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services for Mrs. Mae Lewis-Day will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, July 20, 2008 at the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home with Harold Turner, Danny Day, Paul Baker, and Rick Sandlin officiating. Visiation will begin at 6:00 p.m. Saturday, July 19, 2008 at the funeral home. Burial will take place at the Levi Branch Cemetery in Smilax, Kentucky under the direction of the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home staff. Jimmy Lewis, Dwight Lewis, Cecil Lewis Jr., Elmer Day, Clinton Kilburn, John L. Lewis, Darrell Lewis, Charlie Wilcox, and Steve Day will serve as pallbearers for Mrs. Mae Lewis-Day.
