The obituary for Esther V. Carberry Officiating Ministers: Pastor Rachel Davison and Rev. Roger Wolfe. Esther Virginia Carberry was born on July 13, 1936 and departed this life on December 18, 2009 at the Letcher Manor Nursing Home in Whitesburg, Kentucky at the age of 73. Esther was born in Meltonville, Iowa, daughter of the late Abner Benjamin Carberry and Edna Lucy Freeman. She was the youngest child in a family of 11 children. After graduating high school she went on to Saint Paul Bible College where she graduated in 1958 with a BRE degree. She then went on to attend Swedish Covenant Nursing School in Chicago, Illinois, where she earned a degree as a registered nurse. In 1961 she arrived at Beefhide, Ky., and worked as a bible teacher and nurse for many years. She also was a nurse for Camp Begomi in Beefhide, Ky. Esther then moved to Kaliope, Ky., where she served as Pastor of the Christian Missionary Alliance Church at Kaliope. She then went on to work for Mary Breckinridge Hospital in Hyden, then to Redbird Hospital in Clay Co., Ky., until moving on the the Leslie Health Dept., where she worked as a nurse for 20 years until her retirement in 1999. Although she was a nurse, Esther wanted to be best known as a bible teacher. She taught Bible Classes in schools at Beefhide, Ky., Kaliope, Ky., Hyden Church of God & the Mozelle Church of God, Esther then proceeded to teach the Bible at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Stinnett, Ky., where she was a member. Esther taught Bible class for morning and evening services as well as Wednesday evening service up until the she suffered a stroke on January 8, 2007. Esther's hobbies were studying and reading the Bible, she enjoyed crocheting, and a music ministry with "The Young at Hearts" singers of Hyden Senior Citizens. She played piano and involved herself in many charity events, Esther was an animal lover. She loved her dog Ginger and had compassion for all animals. Esther's favorite Scripture was Psalms 91, which she read every evening before going to sleep. Esther often quoted Proverbs 3: 5-6, Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not onto thine own understanding, In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Esther was preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Art, Marion, Raymond and Cecil; sister: Lois Carberry. She was survived by a very dear & devoted friend, Rachel Davison of Stinnett, KY.; brothers: Merle & Marilyn of Illinois, Wayne Carberry and Paul Carberry of Arizona and Howard Carberry & Sharon of Texas; sister: Edith Coy of Iowa. Funeral services for Esther V. Carberry will be conducted 2:00 p.m. - Wednesday - December 23, 2009 at the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Rachel Davison & Rev. Roger Wolfe officiating. Interment will follow at the Brewer Cemetery at Wooton, Kentucky. Friends may call for visitation from 11am until the funeral time at 2pm - Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home. The following will serve as Active Pallbearers: Ronald Garrison, Ethan Adams, Doc Hacker, John Hacker, Johnny Mosley, Don Barger, Gary Maggard and Lawrence Bray; Honorary Pallbearer: Ed Osborne.
