The obituary of Virginia "Jeanne" Pauline Hereford Walker: Officiating Ministers:Rev. Billy Joe Lewis, Harold Turner,Battle Beasley & Richard Guerrant Mrs. Virginia "Jeanne" Pauline Hereford Walker was born July 4, 1926 departed this life on June 5, 2009 at the St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington, Ky, at the age of 82years, 11 months and 1 day of age. Jeanne was born at Norton Branch, Rush, (Carter Co.,) Kentucky, the youngest child of the late Byron Hereford & Minnie Stewart. Jeanne spent her formative years in Carter Co. & was a 1944 graduate of Hitchins High School. She was employed by Ruppert's department store, Grayson, KY., as a sales clerk & purchasing agent. Jeanne was united in marriage to Dwayne D. Walker on July 12, 1947. Dwayne & Jeanne were residents of Louisa, Ky., where she was employed by the Soil Conservation office & Dwayne was employed by the Young Funeral Home. Dwayne & Jeanne moved to Hyden, Ky., in February 1952 & were partners in the Hyden Funeral Home. The Walkers opened the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home in 1959 at the current location of 155 Hickory St., Hyden, Ky. Jeanne was still active in the business at the time of her death. Jeanne was a former member of the Silver Bow Chapter of the Eastern Star Hyden Lodge & former devoted member of the Hyden Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School & GA's. She was currently attending the Central Presbyterian Church, Hyden, Ky. Jeanne enjoyed reading, especially her bible, cooking for others & serving the people of Leslie County at her life-long profession at the funeral home. Dwayne & Jeanne both considered being residents of Hyden & serving the citizens of Leslie County a great honor & privilege. Jeanne's great joy was being involved in the lives of her son & his wife, grandchildren, & great-grandchildren, Mrs. Jeanne Walker was preceded in death by her husband, Dwayne D. Walker, on August 28, 1991,one infant son, five sisters: Thelma Bates, Nell Hereford, Grace Fankel Tufts, Alma Easterling, Margaret Hereford, two brothers: Frank Hereford & William Byron " Bill" Hereford. Mrs. Virgina "Jeanne" Pauline Hereford Walker leaves the following survivors: one son: Gregory Dwayne Walker & wife, Sandra, three grandsons: Gregory Dwayne Walker II, Nicholas Stewart Walker & Rebecca Asher, Benjamin Layton Walker; two great-grandchildren: Nicholas James Taylor & Aaliyah Marie, all of Hyden, Ky., one sister: Elizabeth Hereford Wolfe of Lexington, Ky., & a host of treasured nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends to mourn her death. The funeral service will be conducted at 12 Noon - Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at her residence, the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home. . with Battle Beasley, Richard Guerrant, Billy Joe Lewis, & Harold Turner officiating. The interment will follow in the Hurricane Cemetery, Hyden, Ky., next to her beloved husband, Dwayne, under the direction of the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home staff. Friends may call for visitation from 6:00 - 9:00 P.M. on Tuesday, June 9, 2009. Donations may be made to the Leslie Co.
