James Morgan Hayes

The obituary of James "Jim" Morgan Hayes Officiating Ministers: Craig Melton, Frank Morgan & Dr. Thomas Watkins Mr. James "Jim" Morgan Hayes passed away on January 3, 2009 at the age of 77 years, 9 months and 11 days old. He was born at Gravett, Arkansas the son of the late James Warren Hayes and the late Mayme Bailey Hayes. By occupation he was a retired Elementary School Teacher and Church of Christ Minister. Jim had been a minister of the Camp Creek Church of Christ for 55 years. He graduated from Harding College in Arkansas and Eastern Kentucky University of Richmond, KY, having received his Bachelors, Masters Degree and Rank I Title. He was president of the Local Teachers Association and took great interest in his community and its people. Jim's hobbies included: painting, singing, playing piano, writing poetry and songs but especially spending time with his children and grandchildren. Jim was responsible for the construction of the new Camp Creek Church of Christ facility and took great pride in its accomplishment. He was preceded in death by his Parents; James & Mayme Hayes; Brother: Joe Richard Hayes; Sister: Doris Richmond; Father & Mother-In Laws: Hobert & Mildred Cornett; Brother-In-Law: Billy Leroy Cornett. He leaves surviving the following relatives: His loving and devoted wife of 53 years: Lillian Renee Cornett Hayes of Wendover, KY; Son: Hobert Carson Hayes & Sherry of Wendover, KY and their children: Ashley Renee Hayes, Sarah Katherine Elizabeth Hayes; Son: Ray Hayes and his children: Tyler, Logan & Riley; Daughter: Melanie Jane Baker & Eugene of Wendover, KY and their children: James Warren Hayes, Cecily Chenoa Hayes; Daughter: Martha Juduan Watkins & Thomas of Corbin, KY. and their children: Thomas Morgan Watkins, Hobert Cornett Watkins, Hannah Elizabeth Watkins, Lillian Renee Watkins and Sterling "Silver Tone" Franklin; Daughter: Elizabeth Suzanne Gross & Russell of Yeaddiss, KY, and their children: Russell Chase Gross & Matthew Kent Gross; Faye Deeters & Ken of North Carolina and their children: Kyle Mark Newsom & Keegan Mitchell Deeters; Daughter: Mary Julia Katherine Hayes of Corbin, Ky; Foster Daughter: Sonya Embry and her children: Michael Embry, Alex Morgan & Sydney Morgan; one Brother: John Hayes & Beverly of Arkansas; three Sisters: Jean Donley & Blaine of Oklahoma City, OK, Sue Morgan & Frank of Texas, and Sharon Potts & Chuck of Arkansas. Jim is also survived by Four Great Grandchildren: James Eugene Carson Hayes, Tailor Juduan Hayes, Tessa Jane Hayes and Thomas James Edward Hayes and a host of other treasured relatives and friends. Funeral services for Mr. James "Jim" Morgan Hayes will be conducted at 12 noon Wednesday - January 7, 2009 at the Camp Creek Church of Christ at Wendover, KY. Burial will follow in the Morgan-Cornett Cemetery at Wendover, KY. The following grandsons: James Warren Hayes, Thomas Morgan Watkins, Hobert Cornett Watkins, Russell Chase Gross, Matthew Kent Gross Michael Stephen Embry will serve as active pallbearers along with Ronald Wilmoth, Eugene Baker and Trevor Kohn. The following will serve as Honorary Pallbearers: Donald Cornett, Doug Cornett, Russell Gross, Chuck Potts, John Hayes, Blaine Donley, and Steve Shell. Visitaton will begin at 6:00 p.m. Monday - January 5, 2009 at the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home at Hyden, KY with additional visitation at the Camp Creek Church of Christ starting at 4:00 p.m -Tuesday-January 6, 2009.
