Judy C. Wilson Lay

August 20, 1943 — July 6, 2013

Judy C. Wilson Lay, age 69, of Barbourville, died Saturday, July 6, 2013 in the Knox County Hospital. Judith Clara Wilson Lay was a daughter of the late Carl E. and Nell Marie Howard Wilson born to them on August 20, 1943 at the Pineville Settlement Hospital in Harlan County, KY. Judy grew up in Stinnett with her mom, dad, and 5 brothers and attended Beech Fork United Methodist Church where she was a long time member. Judy attended Beech Fork Elementary and Stinnett Elementary School, after which she attended Leslie County High School where she graduated in 1961. After high school she lived with her beloved Aunt Nan Creech in Cumberland and worked at Cumberland Valley Rural Electric Company. It was during this time that she met her future husband, Mr. Kenneth Lay, of Barbourville, KY who was also working at RECC. They were married on October 13th, 1962. To this union 2 children were born, Gregory Allen Lay in 1964 and Teresa Lay Evans in 1967. While living in Cumberland Judy attended night classes at Cumberland Community College. She was a member of the Red Hat Club and Young Republican Womens Club. She was also involved with the Ladies Auxiliary and attended meetings with the Garden Club. She previously played the piano at Liberty Baptist Church. She loved watching her 5 grandchildren in all their various activities and they were her inspiration!
