Flara Norman Brashear

Flara Brashear was born January 26, 1920 in Perry Co., Kentucky, the daughter of the late T.G. & Cora York. She was granted her angel wings on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at her residence in Jacksonville, Florida at the age of 91 years. She relocated to Jacksonville from London, Kentucky but spent most of her life in Leatherwood, KY. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church at London, Kentucky. Her interests included quilting, baking, and reading. She loved her four children and enjoyed spending time with them sharing family stories. Flara had a passion for walking and made that mile a daily routine during all seasons. She was an avid UK Wildcats fan and for many years never missed a home football game. Flara Brashear was preceded in death by her parents: TG & Cora York; a loving husband of 49 years, James Edward Brashear; 2 sisters and 4 brothers. She leaves surviving the following relatives: Two sons: James Edward Brashear Jr. & Evelyn of London, Kentucky and Drs. Robert Brashear & Debra Arnett of Columbia, Kentucky. Two daughters: Karen Brashear Miracle & JR of Jacksonville, FL. and Jayne Brashear McGuire & Fred of Charlotte, NC. One brother: Lloyd York of Ellicott City, Maryland; Two Sisters: Nita Lunceford of Johnson City, TN, and June Risden of Noblesville, Indiana; Four grandchildren: Austin Brashear, Madison Brashear, Terry Brashear, and Paul Leslie Brashear. Two great-grandchildren: Victoria Brashear & James Brashear. Also a host of other relatives & friends survive. A graveside service will be held on Saturday ~ October 29, 2011 at 3:00 P.M. at the Hurricane Cemetery at Hyden, Kentucky. Visitation will be held at the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home on Saturday at 2:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, Flara request that you make a donation to Caboodle Ranch, a nonprofit cat rescue sanctuary in Lee, Florida.
