The Obituary for Leila Feltner Begley Officiating: John Newell Leila Feltner Begley was born on January 5, 1915 in Hyden, Ky., the daughter of the late, Felix C. & Ona Maggard Feltner, she passed away on Sunday, May 9, 2010 in Scottsburg, In., at the age of 95 years.Mrs. Begley married Elmer Begley in 1941.They celebrated 29 wonderful years together before he passed away on September 18, 1970. She moved from Hyden, to Austin, In. in 1975. Mrs. Begley graduated from Buckhorn High School in Buckhorn, Ky. and from Eastern Kentucky State Teachers College. She was a retired Home Economics teacher. She taught for 30 years in Leslie Co. She served as an Assistant Secretary of State in Ky., an office she held until September 21, 1970, when Governor Louie B. Nunn appointed her to her husband's position following his death. She served as the first appointed woman of Secretary of State from September 21, 1970-February 2, 1971, when she resigned the positiion and again assumed the role of Assistant Secretary of State. She was a member of the Central Presbyterian Church in Hyden, Ky., she attended Austin Methodist Church and enjoyed cooking & sewing. Survivors include three children, Mrs. Carolyn Daley & Gil of Lexington, Ky., Elmer "Sonny" Begley, Jr. of Hyden, KY. & Mrs. Louise Hume & Jim of Austin, In. five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two brothers & four sisters also survive.She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother & two sisters. Funeral service will be conducted by the Adams Funeral Home in Crothersville, IN. on Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at 4:00 P.M. at the Adams Funeral Home, visitation will be on Wed. from 5-8:00 P.M. at the Funeral Home. There will be a second funeral service conducted by the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home, Hyden, Ky. on Friday, May 14, 2010 at the Central Presbyterian Church in Hyden, Ky. at 1:00 P.M. with John Newell officiating. The following will serve as Pallbearers: Gil Lane Daley, Bryan Daley, Chris Hume, Tim Lovett, Tom Lovett and Dean Osborne. The following will serve as Honorary Pallbearers: Jimmy Sizemore and James Lewis. Visitation will be on Friday, from 11:00 A.M. until time of funeral hour. Burial will follow in the Hurricane Cemtery at Hyden, Ky. Memorial Donations may be given to the Central Presbyterian Church in Hyden, Ky., P.O. Box 1679 or the Elmer and Leila F.
