Billy Ray Day born October 16, 1935 departed this life on Thursday, January 31, 2019 at his residence at Wooton, KY. Billy Ray was born at Polls Creek, KY., the son of the late, Floyd Day & Martha Sizemore Day. Billy Ray was united in marriage to Peggy Mosley on January 6, 1958. Mr. & Mrs. Day were married for sixty-one years and blessed with five children: Arlene, Billy Ray, Jr., Laura Ann, Billie Sue and Jeffrey Ray. Mr. Day was a well- respected, business owner in Leslie County for over fifty years and a pillar of the community. He and his wife, Peggy, owned and operated Day's Ashland Service Station for 37 years. After closing, he continued to be active as the proprietor of Day Family Auto Sales. Mr. Day was a devoted member of the Smilax Church of Christ. Mr. Billy Ray Day had a very distinguished political career having honorably served in the Leslie County Fiscal Court as Magistrate of District 3. Mr. Day's greatest pleasure in life came from spending time with his family. Some of his fondest memories were times spent at Barren River Lake with his brothers and sisters. He was also an avid fisherman and hunter. His family and friends revered him for his work ethic, humility and wisdom. Mr. Day was the last surviving of his generation in the Day family. He will be greatly missed. Mr. Day was preceded in death by his parents: Floyd and Martha Day, mother-in-law and father-in-law: Wiley and Mary Mosley, daughter: Laura Ann Sandlin, two infant sons: Billy Ray, Jr. and Jeffrey Ray, grandson: Jacob Cornett: three sisters: Laura Hogg, Leona Eaton and Judy Lewis; five brothers: Homer, Thomas, Jimmy, Donnell and Jerry Day. Mr. Day is survived by his loving & devoted wife: Peggy, two daughters: Arlene (Paul) Baker and Billie Sue (Danny) Cornett: son-in-law: Rick Sandlin, four grandsons: Justin Sandlin, Dusty (Ashley) Baker, Timothy (Madeleinne) Baker: and David (Brittany) Sandlin, two granddaughters: Mary Beth and Charity Cornett, one great-granddaughter: Laura Jane Baker, one soon to be born great-grandson: Killian Sandlin, sister: Mable Ruth (Glenn) Martin, sister-in-law: Ruth Day, two brothers-in-law: Robert Mosley and Raymond Joseph, and many cherished nephews, nieces and friends also survive.
