Bonnie Lois Couch, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, educator, and creative soul, passed away peacefully at her residence in Richmond, KY on January 15, 2024, at the age of 87. Born in Leslie Co., KY on September 18, 1936, Bonnie had a profound impact on the lives of those she encountered throughout her distinguished career and personal life.
Bonnie's journey began in the field of community service and education. Bonnie worked in the Leslie Co. Clerk's office immediately following her high school graduation. She then dedicated herself to shaping the minds of future generations as she taught business at the Leslie Co. Vocational School until her retirement. Her genuine concern and professionalism were admired by both her fellow teachers and students. Bonnie's unwavering support for her family extended beyond blood ties to encompass all of her students, school colleagues, and county community members. She possessed a warm and caring heart that drew people to her and exhibited grace and elegance in all aspects of her life.
After retiring from teaching, Bonnie pursued her passion for catering and event planning. Her amazing creativity shone through as she put her heart into making weddings and events extra special. Additionally, Bonnie enjoyed indulging in crafts, a hobby she shared with her daughter Felicia. Together, they poured their love into their creations.
Apart from her professional endeavors, Bonnie was a family-oriented woman who found immense joy in spending time with her loved ones. Her cherished grandchildren held a special place in her heart. Family gatherings were filled with love and laughter as Bonnie created lasting memories with those closest to her.
Bonnie was born to Woodrow and Estelle Gross Wilson in Leslie Co., KY. whose values had a profound effect on her life and career. She shared a deep bond with her sister Muriel Wilson Lewis and her brother, Charles Ed Wilson throughout their lives. Bonnie took great pride in being a graduate of Red Bird High School and firmly believed in the value of higher education. She made significant sacrifices to achieve her degrees including relocating to Williamsburg, KY with Felicia during their early years. Bonnie received her bachelor’s degree from Cumberland College before attaining her master's and Rank 1 from Eastern Kentucky University.
Bonnie's influence on her family and students was one of her proudest accomplishments. Her dedication to teaching and mentorship continued even after retirement, as former students reached out to her throughout her life. Bonnie left an indelible mark on the lives of numerous individuals who will forever carry her teachings and guidance.
In mourning the loss of Bonnie, she is survived by her loving and devoted husband, George David Couch of Richmond, KY. Her cherished daughter Felicia Couch Kingsley, alongside husband Kevin Kingsley, also mourns the passing of their beloved mother. Bonnie's stepson Lonnie Couch and his wife Vanda, as well as her beloved brother Charles Edward Wilson and wife Rose Nell of Lexington, KY, join in grieving for their loss. She will be remembered fondly by her treasured grandchildren: Adam Drew Kingsley, Corey Benjamin Kingsley, Rebecca Couch Hall, and David Couch.
A Funeral Service to celebrate Bonnie Lois Couch's life will be held at 11:15 AM on January 20, 2024, at the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home located at 155 Hickory Street in Hyden, KY. with Pastor Logan Wayne Bowling officiating, friends may call for visitation from 10:30 until the funeral hour at 11:15 A.M. at the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home. Entombment will follow at Madison County Memorial Gardens, 210 Rice Lane West, Richmond, KY. The following will serve as pallbearers: Kevin Kingsley, Adam Kingsley, Corey Kingsley, Tackett Wilson, Casey Wilson, Marty Alger, Marty Lewis, Craig Lewis & David Couch. All who knew and loved Bonnie are invited to attend this gathering where memories will be shared, and hearts uplifted in remembrance of a remarkable woman.
Bonnie's passing reminds us of all of the fragility of life and the importance of embracing our passions while cherishing our loved ones. She leaves behind a legacy filled with love, compassion, dedication, creativity, and unwavering support for those fortunate enough to have known her. Bonnie led a remarkable life filled with professional achievements and cherished moments with her family and friends.
