Cecil Howard, born on December 14, 1943, in Leslie County, Kentucky, departed this life on December 2, 2024, at the Select Danville Hospital in Danville, Kentucky. He was a dedicated member of the community and a cherished figure among his family and friends.
Cecil retired after over 20 years of service as a miner at Lost Mountain. His career extended beyond mining, as he also excelled in auto body repairing, showcasing his skills and work ethic. In addition to these professions, Cecil served with honor as both fire chief and police chief in Ohio, demonstrating his commitment to public service and community safety.
An accomplished musician, Cecil shared the stage with notable artists such as Ralph Stanley, Larry Sparks, Keith Whitley, and Ricky Skaggs. Music was not just a vocation for him but a passion that brought joy to his life and those around him. Outside of music, he found happiness in fishing and yard work, but above all, he treasured the moments spent with his family.
Cecil is survived by his loving wife of 14 years, Dianna Stidham Howard. He is also survived by two sons, Dewayne Howard and his wife Christin, and Tony Begley; two daughters, Denise Spicer and her husband Clint, and Cecilia Ritchie. Additionally, he leaves behind one brother, Bill Howard and his wife Loretta. Cecil's legacy continues through his grandchildren: Chelsie Spicer, Rayven Ritchie, Erika Cummins, Dylan Howard, Kanyon Ritchie, Josh Begley and his wife Samantha, Kayla Begley and her partner Cory, and Carman Begley. He was also a proud grandfather to three great-grandchildren: Lilyana, Elijah, and McKenzie. Cecil was surrounded by a host of other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus Howard and Katie Colwell Howard, as well as several siblings, including Hazel Baker, Rachel Nicely, Zona Howard, Felix Howard, and another brother.
Cecil Howard's life was marked by hard work, family dedication, and musical artistry. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him, as his spirit continues to resonate in the hearts of his loved ones.
