We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Charlie Estep, a beloved individual who will be remembered for his significant contributions and the impact he made during his lifetime. Charlie was born on March 17, 1923, in Bobtown, KY, to James Harvey Estep and Damie Phelps Estep. He peacefully passed away on January 30, 2024, in Somerset, KY.
Charlie's career was marked by dedication and excellence. He served as the Supervisor of the Miami Valley Regional Transit Department where he excelled in his role. Additionally, Charlie had a distinguished history of service as a Deputy Sheriff for the City of Miami Valley, OH. His commitment to his work set an admirable example for his peers and those he mentored throughout his career. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Charlie proudly served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II as a Radio Operator - Decoder. His time in the military allowed him to demonstrate bravery and resilience while serving his country.
Outside of work and military service, Charlie had a range of diverse interests that brought him joy throughout his life. He enjoyed using his creative skills to make fishing bait and lures. He also found pleasure in playing tennis, snow skiing, and embarking on adventures around the world. Charlie's hunger for new experiences enriched his life and created cherished memories for him and those fortunate enough to accompany him on his journeys.
Among Charlie's proudest accomplishments was his involvement with various organizations. He was an esteemed member of the VFW post in Somerset, KY. He was a member of the Eden Baptist Church in Somerset, KY. for 96 years until his health would not permit him to go. He also took on multiple roles including Deacon, Song Leader, and Sunday School teacher. His dedication to these positions left an indelible impact on those whose lives he touched.
Charlie is survived by his loving wife Joyce Osborne Estep of Somerset, KY. His memory will also be cherished by his two stepdaughters, Betty Brock and Alandes of Helton, KY, and RaNae Turner and Keith of Somerset, KY. Additionally, he is mourned by Olivia Brock, Helton, KY, Marsheena Brock & Dillion Muncy, Helton, KY, Erick & Bailee Turner, Bronston, KY & Destiny Turner, Bronston, KY. Two children that brightened up his life by being around, Loerona & Jaydence Caldwell, Helton, KY & their little dog, Oreo & Special friend, Carolyn Isaacs who was there until the end. Also a host of nieces and nephews who have been touched by his kindness and guidance.
Funeral: Monday, February 5, 2023 at 1:00 P.M. at the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home, Hyden, KY.
Ministers: Joe Isaacs & Jordan Burk
Interment: 2:00 P.M. at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery South East, Hyden, KY.
*Full military rites will be performed by the Leslie Co. DAV Chapter #133*
