Christopher Harvey Begley, a cherished soul who enlivened every room he entered with his warmth and good humor, passed away peacefully at his home in Confluence, Kentucky, on January 27, 2025, at the age of 84. Born on January 11, 1941, in Leslie County, Kentucky, he was the beloved son of the late Alfred and Creola Sizemore Begley.
A proud and dedicated retired coal miner, Christopher embodied the spirit of hard work and perseverance. Yet, it was not just his career that defined him; his personality radiated friendliness, and he relished engaging conversations with everyone he encountered. Christopher’s fondness for people was matched only by his love for politics and current affairs, often being found deep in thought while listening to the radio or intently watching the news.
Christopher's legacy lives on through his vibrant family. He shared a devoted marriage of 59 years with his loving wife, Cloma Rose Huff Begley, who stood by him through all of life’s challenges and joys. Their union was fortified by the laughter and love that resonated in their home, creating lasting memories with their six children: Chris Begley and Tincey of Indiana, Columbus Begley and Natasha of Hyden, Kentucky, Cleveland Harvey Begley and Deanitta of Indiana, Colleen and James of Chavies, Kentucky, Clayton Begley and Kendra of Campton, Kentucky, and Claudene and Bill of Hyden, Kentucky. His legacy extends further with fifteen grandchildren who brought him immense joy: Brittany Joseph and Justin, Christin Sluder and Nick, Jeffery Ambrose, Vanessa Begley and Stephen, Cleveland Edward-Alfred Begley and Sierra, Emily Trent and P.J., Breanna Caldwell and Josh, Caitlin Begley & Jason, Caylene, and Cole Lemelle, Cade Lemelle, Josey Begley, and Clayton Begley and Shanda, Cleveland Duane-Harvey and Bryleigh, and Conner Begley. Moreover, he is survived by eighteen great-grandchildren, siblings, Ronnie Begley & Patty and Bonnie Lou Begley. His family knew him not only for his hard work but also for his boundless love and humor. Spending time surrounded by his family and friends was his proudest accomplishment, creating a legacy woven with joy and laughter. Christopher’s great sense of humor left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him.
While we mourn the passing of Christopher, we celebrate the lives he touched and the stories he created throughout his journey. He joins his beloved parents Alfred and Creola, along with his dear grandchild Christopher Thomas Begley, and siblings who have crossed before him: Hershal L. Begley, Jesse Begley, Raleigh Begley, R. J. Begley, Louvenia Begley Frasier, and infant twin sisters Bertha Mae and Etta Faye Begley, as well as Roseann Begley Williams.
