Edward Howard

Mr. Edward Howard of Hyden, passed away Thursday, August 12, 2021 at the Well's Hospice Center in Hazard. He was 91 years old. Ed was born July 24, 1930 in Leslie Co., KY., the son of the late, James Howard and Ollie Stidham Howard. Ed had been a life-long resident of Leslie Co. Ed was a retired coal miner & electrician  who had a very distinguished career in the coal industry.  He started working in the mines at age 14.  He retired from Airdox Mining Company  Ed was a devoted & active member of the Community United Wooton Presbyterian EPC Church at Wooton, KY. Ed was a man who enjoyed "helping neighbors".  His loyalty and devotion to his family extended to his church & church family, along with neighbors and friends.   He was very technically adept. He could repair anything & was a skilled mason. Ed was very self-sufficient, he constructed his own house.  He was still driving and cutting his own grass at age 91.   Ed was an avid hunter and fisherman until about 15 years ago. 

Ed was preceded in death by his beloved parents, his loving wife, Zelphia Harris Howard, 2 beloved sons, Jeffery Howard & Eddie Howard, son-in-law, Jim Roland and a host of brothers & sisters. He leaves the following relatives surviving; 1 beloved daughter, Carolyn Howard Roland, Williamsburg, KY., 1 beloved son, Lonnie Dean Howard & wife, Patty, Hot Springs, VA., daughter-in-law, Gini Howard, Nancy, KY., 3 treasured grandchildren, Gretchen Tracy & Spencer, Meghan Amerson & Edward & Bret Howard & Sarah & 9 treasured great grandchildren, Sydney Tracy, Reagan Tracy, Amelia Amerson, Henry Amerson, Eliza Amerson, Isaac Amerson, Alex Amerson, Brenly Howard & Maverick Howard. Also a host of other relatives & friends survive.

Funeral: Saturday, August 14, 2021 at 1:00 P.M. at the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home, Hyden, KY. (MASKS ARE REQUESTED FOR ALL THOSE ATTENDING)

Ministers: Greg Whitaker and Merle Caudill

Interment: Hurricane Cemetery, Hyden, KY.

Visitation: Saturday, August 14th at 12:00 Noon at the Funeral Home Chapel
