Goldie Mae "Gomae" Simpson, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend passed away peacefully on September 14, 2024, at the Hyden Health & Rehab Center in Hyden, Kentucky. She was 70 years old. They were united in marriage in August, 1971. She was born on December 9, 1953, in Hoskinston, Kentucky, and spent her life dedicated to her family and community.
Goldie was a beacon of love and kindness, known for her compassionate spirit and unwavering support for those around her. She cherished her role as a wife to her loving and devoted husband of 53 years, Glenn Simpson. Together, they built a life filled with warmth, laughter, and shared memories. Goldie took great pride in her family, which includes her cherished daughter, Rita Sandlin (Michael), and two brothers, Lester Whitehead and Ronnie "Bubboy" Whitehead. Goldie's bond with her immediate family was strengthened by her strong connections to her sisters, Patricia Nantz, Shirley Brock, Omeda Holland, Faye Simpson, and Juanita Soto (John).
Her legacy extends to her treasured grandchildren, Kaitlyn Quillon (Chris) and Jalon Sandlin, as well as her special great nephew and niece, Bradley Smallwood and Sariah Howard, whom she lovingly considered her grandchildren.
Goldie had a remarkable zest for life, evident in her many hobbies and interests. She loved walking, exploring thrift stores, and enjoying peaceful moments on the porch. Animals held a special place in her heart, and she often found joy in visiting and helping people, particularly in care-giving and cleaning roles. Her involvement in the lives of her family was a testament to her nurturing nature, leaving a profound impact on everyone she encountered.
Goldie is survived by a multitude of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who will deeply miss her gentle spirit and infectious smile. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Tinsley Whitehead and Viona Brock Whitehead, her brother, Tinsley Jr. Whitehead, brother-in-law, Charlie Simpson, and nephews, David and Caleb Holland.
