Jacqueline Smith Gilbert, known by many as "Mammaw Jackie" a devoted mother, grandmother, and a cherished member of the community, passed away on August 27, 2024 at Well's Hospice Center in Hazard, Kentucky. Born on May 5, 1940, in Stinnett, Kentucky, Jacqueline touched the lives of many throughout her remarkable journey.

Jacqueline dedicated 31 years of her life to the Leslie County School System, where she served at Stinnett Elementary and Leslie County High School. Her roles as a Teacher's Aide and Bus Driver exemplified her commitment to education and the well-being of the children she cared for. Her passion for fostering a supportive environment in the classroom left a lasting impact on students and colleagues alike.

In addition to her professional achievements, Jacqueline had a vibrant spirit and was known for her love of simple pleasures. She enjoyed working on search word puzzles, fishing, and, above all, spending quality time with her family. Her warmth and kindness were evident to everyone who knew her.

Surviving Jacqueline are her three cherished sons, John Gilbert and his wife Carolyn of Thousandsticks, KY, Roger Gilbert of Stinnett, KY, and Donald Gilbert of Stinnett, KY. She is also survived by two beloved daughters, Oma Carol Huff and her husband Leslie of Confluence, KY, and Chris Smith and her husband Chalous of Somerset, KY. Her family legacy continues with one brother, Ernest Smith and his wife Ann of London, KY, and three sisters, Faye Napier of Lake City, FL, Shirley Simpson of Helton, KY, and Idella Hubbard and her husband Glen of Williamsburg, KY. Jacqueline was a proud grandmother to eleven treasured grandchildren: Josh Huff, Sonya Huff, Brenda Leann Hensley, Monica Hacker, Heather Akers, Katie Halcomb, Hayley Gilbert, Kevin Bray, Kyle Nantz, Wesley Gilbert, and Nathan Hall, along with sixteen great-grandchildren. She also held a special friendship with Helen Sizemore, and will be missed by a host of cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Jacqueline was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Pearl Smith and Leoma Morgan Smith, her loving and devoted husband, Haywood Gilbert, her cherished daughter, Lola Faye Gilbert Johnson, and treasured granddaughter, Kendra Hall. She also mourned the loss of her great-grandson, Ryan Nantz, and her brothers: Golden, Hobert, Dalton, William, Everett, Orie, Thomas, John Jr., and Clarence, as well as her special daughter-in-law, Karen Bray Gilbert.

The legacy of Jacqueline Smith Gilbert will live on through the countless lives she affected and the love she provided to her family and community. She will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed.

Funeral: Sunday, Sept.1, 2024 at 3:00 P.M. at the Stinnett Gap Church of God at Stinnett, KY
