Jean Napier was born in Hyden, KY on July 12, 1939, the oldest child of the late John Henry Napier and Eniree Bray Napier. On Friday November 15, 2019 around 7:00AM at the Hazard ARH Medical Center in Hazard, KY, God decided it was best to bring her home with him to her Heavenly home. Jean lived a blessed life of 80 years, 4 months & 3 days.
Jean was a resident of Leslie County most of her life. She graduated from LCHS in 1959. Immediately after graduation, she joined the workforce. Her work history reflects the great pride she took in hard work throughout her life. First, she worked for three different businesses all owned by the late Johnnie Lewis. His restaurant in downtown Hyden, another restaurant known as the “Chuck Wagon”, and his well-known store Lewis’ Market. Later on, she worked for Dill and Gladys Asher at Asher’s IGA store in Hyden. After Dill’s passing, Gladys partnered with Edgar Matt Baker and later Damon Huff, renaming the store to “City Market”, where Jean worked also. Lastly, Jean was one of the first people hired at Food Fair when it opened in Hyden and she worked there several years. This was her last place of official employment.
Jean was a faithful and very dedicated member of the Rockhouse Pentecostal Church for many years. In her younger years, Jean enjoyed traveling and going places with her friends, playing cards with her family, and she loved going to Daytona Beach with her family. She loved planting and tending to her flowers and she enjoyed gardening. She took great pride in cooking for her brothers, nieces, and nephews on a regular weekly basis and she loved serving them and watching them eat. Jean’s ultimate passion was spending time with her family. Whether it was for holiday gatherings, cookouts or picnics, or just sitting with them on her front porch, she loved the time spent with her loved ones. Her greatest joy in her later years, was the moments she shared with her nieces and nephews whom she loved with her whole heart. They were her world, her life and she cherished every one of them.
