Jeffery Lynn Howard

Jeffery Lynn Howard of Hyden, KY passed away Saturday, October 5, 2019 at the Hazard Appalachian Regional Medical Center following a sudden illness. He was 61 years old. Jeff is survived by his loving and devoted parents; Edward and Zelphia Howard of Hyden, Ky, his beloved sister; Carolyn Roland of Williamsburg, KY Carolyn's daughter Gretchen Tracy and husband Spencer of Richmond, KY Their daughters Sydney, age 9 and Reagan, age 6. Jeff is also survived by his beloved  brother: Eddie and wife Gini of Nancy. KY, their son Bret and his wife Sara and their daughter: Brenly, age 18 months, also surviving Jeff is his beloved brother and best friend; Lonnie Dean Howard and his wife Patty of Hot Springs, VA, their daughter; Megaan Amerson and her husband Ed, their children Amelia, age 12, Henry Dean, age 10, Eliza, age 7, Isaac, age 4, and Alexander Harris, age 8 weeks old. Jeff graduated from Leslie County High School, Salutatorian of his class. He then attended Eastern Kentucky University and the University of Kentucky where he studied Chemistry and Physics. After college Jeff enjoyed a very distinguished  career of research and lab work around Lexington and at the University of Kentucky. He won several awards in his academic years and was the recipient of several academic scholarships. Jeff loved music and could play the guitar and drums. he loved reading, especially books of science, time and space and the planets. He also loved cats, wild animals, rock concerts, art, good food and helping others. His kindness, quick wit and friendly personality endeared him to all who got to know him. FUNERAL SERVICES: 1:00 p.m. -Tuesday- October 8, 2019 at the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home at Hyden, KY.

VISITATION: 6:00 p.m. - Monday- October 7, 2019 at the funeral home chapel.
