Jimmie Darrell Terry, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2025, at his residence in London, Kentucky at the age of 83. He was born on April 9, 1941, in Hazard, Kentucky, the son of the late Lee Terry & Pauline Begley Terry. Jim dedicated his life to family, service to his country and a career that reflected his industrious spirit.
Jim enjoyed a distinguished career at General Motors in Dayton, Ohio, where he retired after 20 years of dedicated service. His work ethic and commitment to excellence were a source of pride, and he took great satisfaction in the legacy he built during his tenure. Additionally, Jim served honorably in the United States Army and proudly retired from the U.S. Army Reserve, having attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. His military service was a significant part of his life, demonstrating his dedication to his country.
Family was at the heart of everything Jim did. He was a very family-oriented individual, known for his self-sacrificing nature. He cherished the moments spent with his loving wife, Bernadine Roberts Terry, who remained his devoted partner for 43 years. Together, they enjoyed traveling, and he often reflected on the joy of exploring the western parts of the United States with his sons.
Jim is survived by his two sons, James Lewis Terry and his wife, Lucinda, of Montana, and Link Tyrell Terry and his wife, Dawn, of Arlington, Virginia. He was a proud grandfather to his treasured grandchildren, Dakota, Sierra, Tyrell, and Stetson & three treasured grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life.
He is also survived by his brothers, Wayne Terry and his wife, Barbara, of Hamilton, Ohio, and Tim Terry of Jacksonville, Florida. Jim's legacy continues through the love and memories shared with his family.
He is preceded in death by his father, Lee Terry; mother, Pauline Begley; sister, Linda Stacy; father-in-law, Henry Roberts; and mother-in-law, Zola Wooton Roberts.
A graveside service will be held in honor of Jim at the Kentucky Veteran Cemetery South East in Hyden, Kentucky, on March 14, 2025, at 1:00 PM, with his nephew, Justin Roberts officiating. Full Military Rites will be observed by the Leslie County DAV Chapter # 133.
Jimmie Darrell Terry will be remembered not just for his accomplishments, but for the love he shared and the impact he had on those around him. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
