Lige Sizemore, Jr.

Lige Sizemore Jr. had a distinguished career in the coal business, having been employed by Whitaker Coal Co. for 32 years. On May 27th, 2023, he passed away at his residence in Smilax, Kentucky. He was born on February 7th, 1952 in Hazard, Kentucky to the late Lige Sizemore Sr. and Oma Caudill Sizemore.

Lige was known for his outgoing personality and friendly nature; he enjoyed conversation with everyone and had a great sense of humor. In addition to spending time with family and friends, Lige loved going to the beach and deep sea fishing.

Family meant everything to Lige- especially his grandchildren who he cherished deeply. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Polly Maggard Sizemore; one cherished son, Steven Madden (Wife Joanie); two cherished daughters: Elaina Sizemore and Samantha Hays (Husband Wayne); seven brothers: Rowie Sizemore (Wife Jessie), Daniel Sizemore (Wife Brenda), Albert Sizemore (Wife JoAnn), Curtiss Sizemore (Wife Mickey), David Sizemore (Wife Louise), Paul Sizemore, Archie R. Sizemore (Wife Susan); two sisters, Jeanette Jasper and Helen Irene Bowling, six treasured grandchildren: Madelyn Hays, Ethan Hays, Ian Hays, Khloe Madden, Kristen Brock, Erica Brock- and a host of other relatives and friends.  The funeral service for Mr. Lige Sizemore, Jr. will be conducted 3:00 P.M. - Wednesday- May 31, 2023 at the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home Chapel with Greg Sizemore officiating.  The interment will follow in the Sizemore family cemetery at Avawam, Ky.  Friends may call for visitation from 5-9:00 P.M. - Tuesday- May 30, 2023 at the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home.  Lige Jr. was preceded in death by his parents, Lige Sizemore, Sr., and Oma Caudill Sizemore & mother-in-law, Mary Maggard.  The following will serve as pallbearers: Steven Madden, Wayne Hays, Garland Sizemore, Dennis Sizemore, Archie R. Sizemore &  Edward Paul Sizemore.  Honorary pallbearers will include Albert Sizemore & Curtiss Sizemore.

Lige's proudest accomplishments were his work and family- both of which he held close to his heart and dedicated much of his life towards.

The world has lost an amazing personality in Lige Sizemore Jr.; however the memories he has left behind will be treasured by those fortunate enough to have known him personally.
