Lillian R. Cornett Hayes born January 31, 1935 departed this life on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at her Wendover, Ky residence.  She was 83 years old. Lillian was born at Wendover, Ky., the daughter of the late Hobert Cornett & Mildred Morgan.  Lillian spent her formative years in Leslie County attending Stinnett Settlement School where she developed a great love for Jesus & his people.She then attended Harding College in Searcy, Arkansas, where she met her future husband, James M. Hayes.  They were united in marriage at the Big House in Wendover on June 30, 1955 with Mary Breckinridge by their side.  Lillian had a very distinguished career in education and social work, having a significant impact upon the children and adults of Leslie County.  She was a tremendous athlete playing shortstop for a women's league softball team at the ripe young age of 40.    Lillian took a great deal of pride in being a loving wife, mother & homemaker.  She enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, reading & her greatest pleasure in life came from spending time with her family.   Lillian was a dedicated member of the Camp Creek Church of Christ, Wendover, Ky., &  was a constant source of support to her husband, Jim in his position as minister.  Mrs. Lillian R. Cornett Hayes was preceded in death by her parents, her loving and devoted husband, James M. Hayes, grandson, Logan Hayes & brother, LeRoy Cornett.  Mrs. Lillian R. Cornett Hayes leaves the following relatives surviving: beloved sons, Hobert Carson Hayes & wife, Sherry of Wendover, Ky., Ray Hayes of California, beloved daughters, Melanie Jane Baker & husband, Eugene, of Wendover, Ky., Martha Juduan Watkins & husband, Dr. Thomas Watkins of Corbin, Ky., Elizabeth Suzanne Gross & husband, Russell of Yeaddiss, Ky., Faye Deters and husband, Ken of Richmond, Ky., Mary Julia Katherine Kohn & husband, Trevor of Wendover, Ky., Sonya Embry & husband, Stephen of Stinnett, Ky., brothers, Donald Cornett & wife, Kat, of Texas, Doug Cornett & wife, Wilma of Brandenburg, Ky., sister, Agnes Karen Melton & husband, Craig of Wendover, Ky. sister-in-law, Shelby Sizemore of Ohio, treasured grandchildren, James Warren Hayes & Amanda, Cecily Chenoa Mobley & Charlie, Thomas Morgan Watkins & Maddie, Hobert Cornett Watkins & Grace, Hannah Elizabeth Cooper & Eric, Lillian Renee Roberts & Cameron, Sterling Sears Franklin & Stephen, Ashley Renea Post & Ethan, Sarah Katherine Elizabeth Reed & Madison, Russell Chase Gross & Sherri, Matthew Kent Gross & Renee,  Keegan Deters, Kyle Mark Newsome, Mercedes Renee Gross, Chelsea Rae Kohn, Michael Steven Embry, Alex Nathan Morgan, Sydney Nicole Morgan, Tyler Vaughn Hayes, 17 treasured great, grandchildren & a host of other relatives and friends mourn her passing and celebrate her life.
