In loving memory of Lois Feltner Begley, a beloved member of the Hyden community, who passed away at Wells Hospice Care Center in Hazard, KY. at the age of 86. Born in Brownsfork, KY on August 9, 1937, Lois's journey came to an end on March 9, 2024.
Lois will forever be remembered for her unwavering dedication to her family and her exceptional culinary skills. For 13 years, she and her husband Edmond owned and ran Ed & Lois' Cafe on Main Street in Hyden. The cafe was not just a place to enjoy delicious meals but a hub where the people of Leslie County gathered, especially on Saturdays. The restaurant was included in the lyrics of Tom T. Hall's album "Trip To Hyden". Their generosity extended beyond business as they provided meals to those in need who couldn't pay. Edmond was elected jailer and magistrate in the following years, Lois provided her full support not only politically but her assistance without pay. She and Edmond cooked all the meals provided to the inmates. They were known and respected for their humane treatment and sincere concern for the inmates.
Apart from her culinary passion, Lois worked for two decades at Mary Breckinridge Hospital in respiratory therapy and housekeeping. Her colleagues respected her for her genuine care for patients and strong work ethic.
Lois had a heart of gold and took on the responsibility of raising four of her siblings as her own at a young age, showcasing her deep love for family until the very end. Her warm personality made everyone feel welcome and comfortable, reflecting in the success of their restaurant. Lois was affiliated with the Hurts Creek Church of Christ until health prevented her attendance.
Survived by her loving husband Everett Begley, devoted son Arville Dwayne Feltner of Hyden, KY, cherished granddaughter Cindall Feltner Sizemore and husband, Timmy of Hyden, Ky. adorable great-granddaughter Karley Sizemore of Hyden, KY and beloved, sister Bertha Ann Gay; Lois leaves behind a legacy of love and hard work.
In addition to her immediate family, Lois will be deeply missed by all those she touched during her lifetime. She is now reunited with her first husband Edmond Feltner, parents Arville Couch and Audrey Bowling Collins, siblings Johnny Couch, Lester Couch, Ray Lee Couch, Jimmy Darrell Couch, Lester "Fat Daddy" Couch, Wanda Feltner, Maudie Woods, Laura Collett, Louise Couch, stepdaughter Claretta Maggard; step-grandsons Jeff Hacker & Brian Hacker along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends.
The funeral service for Mrs. Lois Feltner Begley will be conducted at 12:00 Noon - Wednesday - March 13, 2024 at the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home, 155 Hickory Street, Hyden, KY., with Pastor Merle Caudill officiating. Friends my call for visitation from 6:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home. The interment will be after the service on Wednesday next to her 1st husband Edmond, at the Lewis - Chappell Cemetery, Hyden, KY.
