Mable Lee Maggard, 82 of Owenton, Kentucky passed away peacefully on January 5th, 2025. She was born in Henry County, Kentucky to the late Richard and Helen (Combs) Duff on September 9, 1942.
On December 8, 1962, Mable was united in marriage to her loving husband of 62 years, Isaac Maggard, who survives.
Mable was preceded in death by her parents Richard and Helen(Combs)Duff, two sisters Velma Jean Perry and Dorothy Duff, and a special honorary son Wiley Feltner.
Mable, at a young age, as well as her whole life, had a passion for helping others. After graduating high school she went to Union College in Barbourville, Kentucky where she received both her Bachelor's and Master’s Degrees in Elementary Education. She immediately began her 28-year career in education as an elementary teacher at a one-room schoolhouse in Flackey, Kentucky. She was also known for setting up the first library at Hayes Lewis School in Leslie County, Kentucky. She taught many different grades and was also a librarian for Leslie County Schools before retiring.
After Mable retired from teaching, she and her husband Isaac moved to Owen County, Kentucky. They began enjoying retirement being grandparents to the children of the late Wiley Feltner and his wife Nora Feltner. During retirement she enjoyed sewing, reading, growing a garden, and spending time with her little dog “Ginger”. She also worked at the Dollar General Store in Owenton, Kentucky for 10 years before retiring again.
In addition to her husband Isaac Maggard, she is survived by a sister, Linda Lou Beams (Robert) of Indiana. A nephew, Ritchie (Rhonda), a niece Debbie (Pat), and great nephew and nieces Ritchie, Cassie, Jacob, and Ariel. She is also survived by Nora Feltner, Crystal Garland (Clyde), Malena Marsh (Glenn), Kim Dalton, (Charles), Amanda Caddell (Mark), Patricia House (Stephen), and Wesley Feltner, 14 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren whom always loved her and Isaac as family and grandparents. Mable also leaves to mourn her loss a host of extended family and friends.
New Funeral Homes are in charge of arrangements. Family will receive friends at the Main Street location on Thursday, January 16, 2025, from 11 - 1 pm and funeral services will follow at 1 pm. Burial will be in the Point Pleasant Cemetery with Bro. Walter Fugate presiding.
