Mark Allen Kilbourne, a distinguished community service volunteer, passed away on June 8th, 2023. He was born in Hyden, KY on July 27th, 1967 to J.B. Kilbourne and Christine Callahan Kilbourne. He was preceded in death by his parents who he missed dearly and cherished memories of them.
Mark attended Leslie County High School, where he received an education that would later take him on the path of becoming a dedicated volunteer. Mark spent over thirty years volunteering with the Coon Creek Fire Department and was a co-founder. He was currently serving as President. Mark was also involved with the Cutshin and Wooton Fire Departments. His contribution to these Fire Departments was unmatched and recognized by many in the surrounding communities. Alongside his work with the Fire Departments, Mark worked for Life-Tech Ambulance service. His commitment to serving others extended to all facets of his life.
Apart from his impressive career as a community service volunteer, Mark had various hobbies and interests that made him unique. Him being an avid fisherman was known among close family and friends; his collection of thousands of baseball cards shows his interest in sports history. He also loved helping with all youth activities and held a special place in his heart for nieces and nephews with whom he shared strong bonds.
Mark's proudest accomplishments included working tirelessly with the Leslie County Athletic Department as a volunteer for football, basketball, and baseball programs. He also dedicated time to serve as an umpire for the Leslie County Youth baseball games.
Mark had the heart and soul of a giver and never regretted sacrificing his time in service to the community. Countless people have personally witnessed firsthand the impact that Mark has made in their lives.
Mark will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him: four brothers - Jeffery Robert Kilbourne of Wooton, KY; David Kilbourne (Rebecca) of Avawam, KY; Christopher Kilbourne (Rebecca) of Bledsoe, and James Callahan (Melinda) of Wooton, KY, one sister Tracy Hamilton (Benny) of Wooton, KY; nieces and nephews - Andrew, Tyler, Noah, Kaylin, Lakisha, Rylan and Sasha; great-nieces and nephews - Adalyn, Zayden, Audrey, Keeley, Serenity, Camdon, Landon and Kaesydon. Mark also leaves behind a very special friend Ned Turner and many other relatives and friends who will always cherish his memory.
Fire Fighters Rites will be observed by all Leslie County Fire Departments and they will also serve as pallbearers.
Funeral: Monday, June 12, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. at the Big Fork Church of God, Yeaddiss, KY.
Interment: Belve Callahan Cemetery @ Wooton, KY.
Visitation: Sunday, June 11, 2023 beginning at 5PM @ the Church
