Stanley Gene Mitchell

Mr. Stanley Gene Mitchell was born on April 17th, 1965, in Hyden, Kentucky and departed this life on Friday, May 26, 2023 at the Advent Health in Manchester, KY at the age of 58.

Stanley was known to be a kind and welcoming person with a great sense of humor. He was proud of his work ethic and record and cherished his family above all else.  By occupation he was a coal miner for 27 years at Alpha Energy and James River Coal.  Stanley always held dear spending time with his wife of 41 years Barbara Lewis Mitchell, two daughters Sonya Danielle Joseph (Husband Michael) and Ashley Nicole Gibson (Matthew), as well as seven grandchildren; Madeline Gibson, Hayden Gibson, Hannah Joseph, Emma Joseph, Sophia Joseph, Nora Joseph and Amelia Joseph he had instilled the importance of family time to all around him.  Stanley was preceded in death by his parents, Sim Mitchell & Oma Coots Mitchell, 4 sisters, Nadine Holstine, Marge Sizemore, Mallie Joseph & Edna Shepherd, brother, Jimmy Mitchell, father and mother in law, Clifford & Kathy Lewis.

Stanley passed away doing what he loved most by spending time with the ones he held closest to his heart. Stanley enjoyed fixing anything that needed repairing.  He also enjoyed birdwatching, mowing the grass & yardwork.  Besides being dedicated to his family that he loved so deeply that included five brothers:  Elmer Mitchell; Wilmer Mitchell (Wife Pauline); Timmy Mitchell (Wife Nannie); Danny Mitchell (Wife Glenda) & Michael Mitchell, & dear friends, Allen Cornett & Roger Coots with constant laughter filling every home.

The arrangements for Stanley's funeral service have been set for Thursday - June 1st - 1:00 p.m. at Walker Funeral Homes LLC, located at 155 Hickory Street in Hyden KY. with Rev. Billy Joe Lewis and Rev. Michael Joseph officiating. The visitation will be held Wednesday - May 31, 2023 - from 6:00 PM-9:00 PM at the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home.  The following will serve as pallbearers, Roger Coots, Allen Cornett, Hayden Gibson, Tim Mitchell, Adam Mitchell, Mark Baker & Michael Joseph.

The legacy that Stanley Gene Mitchell leaves behind will always be remembered by everyone who knew him from his love for his family to his work ethic and record.  Stanley will be deeply missed by everyone he has touched during his life.
