Mr. William R. "Darrell" Miniard of Big Laurel, KY. passed away Thursday, April 11, 2019 at the Wells Hospice Center in Hazard, KY. at the age of 90. Darrell was born Oct. 2, 1928 in Leslie Co., KY., the son of the late, Joseph Miniard & Nancy Ann Miniard. He had been a life-long resident of Leslie Co. He was a former coal miner, logger, farmer, school bus driver, & Leslie Co. Deputy Sheriff, serving honorably in the early 1960's & 1970's. Darrell Darrell was commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel. He was affliated with the Baptist Church. He enjoyed farming, fishing, hunting (especially turkey hunting) , digging ginseng & his greatest joy came from spending time with his family.
Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, treasured granddaughter, Amanda Nicole Miniard, brothers, John H. Miniard, Murphy Miniard & Major Miniard & sisters, Mae Miniard Jackson, Alpha Estridge & Alma Miniard. He leaves the following relatives surviving, his loving & devoted wife of 71 years, Marybelle Caldwell Miniard, of Big Laurel, KY., 3 beloved daughters, Lavonne Pollack (Thomas) of The Villages, FL., Linda Smith (David) of Hoskinston, KY. & Nancy Miniard (Mary Morgan) of Chappell, KY., 2 beloved sons, Dean Miniard (Faye) of Big Laurel, KY. & Marty Miniard (Rose) of Lancaster, KY., 6 treasured grandchildren, Johnathan Todd, Mark Smith, Scottie Miniard, Heather Smith, Victoria Purvis & Josh Smith, 5 treasured great grandchildren, Kayla Morgan, Dalton Morgan, Cameron Bradford, Dillon Smith & Madelyn Bradford & 4 treasured great great grandchildren, Jack Purvis, Jacob Todd, Benjamin Todd & Beau Purvis. Also a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives & friends survive.
Funeral: Sunday, April 14, 2019 @ 2:00 P.M. at the Dwayne Walker Funeral Home, Hyden, KY.
